According to LotR (of which I am a junkie/fangirl), they do have beards, which is why the myth that there were no dwarf women and that dwarves merely grew out of stone came around - some stupid humans couldn't tell the difference between male and female dwarves.
Also, female dwarves are rarer, and most dwarves rarely decide to wed, whether they are female or male.
That clear it up? It's the the back of LoTR: RoTK, where alot of stuff about Middle-Earth is.
